I cannot get the cpu to lock in is there some type of retesion unit for this Its a retail slot1 pIII 800 100mhz cpu Im only asking because it backed out once in a 2 weeks since i put it in

Usually the retention/locking mechanism comes with the motherboard - if not go to a local dealer and get one. I broke off the casing off my P3-450 a looong time ago and over the year mine got broken by constantly taking it off and on again. So I use 3 thick rubberbands and that's good enough for me (bearing mine is an ALPHA slot cooler so it never gets hot enough to melt the rubber bands..

Bump I have the brakets The cpu dont have no tabs to lock and there not broken.

there are locking clips that pop out to hold it in place. Make sure once it is seated that the clips are out and locked as to hold the CPU in place.
