Hi guys
( You Can skip to My QUESTIONS in the 4th Paragraph
)
I'm done with my dfi lanparty ultra-d mobo
I simply cannot get it to post, and being that I tried using a rma'd ultra-d and a brand new ultra-d i got last friday with no success, AND tried both a 7800 gt and a 7900 gt with no success, AND a 6600 gt with a 350 psu to no avail, AND found out that both my 3700+ and opty 165, and ram works in another system , i'm ready to buy a new motherboard. :|
I'm interested in the Tyan Tomcat k8e because it is one of two motherboards AMD recommends for my opteron 165. I also want to use my system for hardcore gaming( Quake 4, Battlefield 2
)
Even though I want to overclock my opty to 2.5 from 1.8 ghz, which I cannot do with this mobo, I read that this mobo will more than likely give me no boot up problems and such from a user review. I rather have a working computer that cant oc than a no-post computer with mad oc'n potential. ( If, however you can recommend a socket 939 mobo that will not give me boot up problems and will will allow me to oc to 2.5 gz, plz tell me of it
) Hehe ;p
My FIRST question is whether this motherboard is recommended to build a computer with minimal complications(e.i no boot up no post problems, etc). And Whether my OCZ Powerstream 600 w psu has all the right power connections for this mobo?
My Next and very important QUESTION is whether I will be able to use my Corsair TWINX2048-4000PT 2GB Kit DDR500 XMS4000 on the K8E at 250 mhz clock rate. I saw a picture of a bios option that allows you to tweak the memory clock rate, but if I DO clock the rate up to 250 mhz, will my motherboard be stable? I just want to make sure I get what I paid for for the ram
Another question I have is Tyan says for the 3700+ to work on the K8E motherboard, the stepping needs to be CG or higher ("NO B0 or C0 stepping CPU's supported").My stepping on this cpu is KAB2E 0545CPMW. Is that stepping higher than the CG stepping the K8E requires?
Does anyone have first hand experience with this motherboard?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED
Have a NICE DAY
!! hehe
