Tyan TIger PRob Floppy Drive is not Recognize

hi,

i have been trying to install an OS on my new tyan tiger mobo, but it won't read the floppy drive?? i dont' know why? then i simply install XP from the CD, but when teh OS boot it still won't see the Floppy drive?d?

i am wondering waht's wrong, i have tried a couple of floppies already, also, what are Legacy Floppies???

Did this problem just begin or did you replace the FDD recently? The FDD has to be at the end of the cable where the twist is or will not be recognised. Another thing when booting does the FDD do anything? You may have the cable on backwards. Additionally, the cable, FDD, or the socket on the motherboard may be bad.

This problem was alz there....ever since i got the system last week???


i have switch cables back adn forth, all is bradn new?? so i am a bit clueless
the socket??? i also bought another one, cuase i thought my board was messed up and the same thign happenned???

Everything is normal until I try to use the floppy drive. When I'm in Windows XP and try to use the drive it doesn't recognize it. At start-up, when the bios searches for the floppy drive it is ok unless there is a floppy disk inside. If there is a disk inside, it doesnt matter if it's a normal disk or a boot disk the system halts and says 02b2 error Incorrect drive A type. In bios it's set up to use 1.44/1.25 3/12 drives. I don't get it.

If you have another FDD, I would try it. The socket that I am talking about is where the FDD cable plugs into the motherboard. It sounds like you may have a FDD with a bad read/write head.

Ok, we know the MB and the cables are ok (BIOS sees the FDD and attempts to boot from it.). I would go to your MB manufacturer website and see if they have anything on it. You may want to consider a BIOS upgrade. When the system boots it may not be passing all of the info on to the OS. Thus the OS does not know there is a FDD. Another thought that I have is when I was doing Tech Support we had an issue with CD-Roms disappearing in the OS. BIOS would see it but not pass the info along. We found out that it was virus causing it. What fixed the problem was a flash BIOS update. I dont know if that will solve the problem but you might want to see what the manufacturer has to say about it. Sorry that I am not of much help!!
