Tyan Tiger MPX missing a few components.....

I have a Tyan Tiger MPX. As you can see in this picture there are two components missing. You can see a little bit of solder residue that was left there or something...... If you look at the picture here, those things are there. There is also a tif version here.

I have almost no knowledge of CE, but wouldn't my motherboard need these components to function properly?

When the computer boots it tells me I have 13mb of memory. I really have 512mb of Registered ECC Corsair memory with Nanya chips.

The cpu's are two Athlon MP 1900's.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

When even the wimpy memory "test" in system BIOS finds a problem, even with ECC RAM, this means your RAM is very
obviously not OK.

As for the "missing" components, it is very common during product design to find that your original design approach was
way too generous (or cautious if you please) on component count. Looks like Tyan originally thought they'd need two more
MOSFETs in the CPU voltage circuitry than they later found necessary.

I tried a 256MB PC2100 Samsung memory and it amazingly got one screen farther, but then freezes when loading windows.

Will the machine boot in single-proc mode?

It does the exact same thing in single processor mode.

Are you using a SCSI controller or have any of the IDE channels disabled?
I read about an issue where users who had a 3Com NIC and had disabled one or both of the IDE channels had problems with lockups. I'm not sure if this was restricted to the MP or the MPX, but there is a BIOS update.

Okay, I'll look into that.

I stuck in a boot disk and got it to boot into Dos. But it won't boot into Windows I guess with 11mb of memory.

Since you've tested a couple types of RAM and I assume the CPUs are good your last shot might be to reset the BIOS or take its "safe" defaults. If you're still not getting anywhere, it may be RMA time. I've never heard of any other erros like that.

That is what I oh so wish I could do. But this is a prebuilt computer from Pogo Linux that I am testing for them. I have to send it back on Monday, I guess I'll just ask them to replace the motherboard and then they can RMA it to Tyan themselves. They are sending it to another reviewing place and then once they are done with it I get it back and I get to keep it.
