Tyan Tiger MP Temp

I just built a tyan tiger MP with 2 athlon xp 1700s. Using motherboard monitor, the temps of both chips stay around 75C. In the BIOS, when the hardware monitor screen first loads, it displays 75C for both chips, but on the next refresh they both drop to around 45C and stay there. The heatsinks are very cool to the touch, and it really doesn't seem like these chips are actually running that hot. Does anyone know if this is some problem with the motherboard, or maybe a way to verify the actual temperature of the chips?

Thanks
