Hello,

Thinking about building a dual boot system based on this motherboard. Hoping to get some input on any know issues users have discovered as it relates to performance, compatibity, etc.

I have read some posts complaing of possible conflicts with Crucial RAM, lockups on shutdown and some other minor annoyances. If you happen to be running a similar setup I would appreciate hearing your opinion of the board and any know problems you might be having. Thanks in advance.

BWT,

I've had one unsuccessful turn at a TigerMP already, admittedly with T-birds, less than ideal components and probably an early rev of the board. Been combing amdmb.com, 2cpu.com and here trying to sort things out before taking another stab.

So far, a few things have sunk in. Don't skimp on the components you pair it with (PSU, cooling, memory, etc.), and that includes the CPUs (get MPs). Find a good Tyan source that's put together enough TigerMPs to know what they're doing if issues arise. If you aren't especially handy, consider having them build the rig.

General pros & cons break down this way for me. On the upside, good AMD chipset, Palomino support, good expandability & upgrade potential to 1.8 GHz & perhaps higher, wide range of CPU speeds/prices to choose from, the fastest SMP platform you can get for the bread until other brands appear.

On the downside, no easy OCing, no MPX, needs an SMP OS, finicky with some other hardware, no apparent thermal protection (BIOS update may cure this), not Intel.
