Ok sumtin is fuxored up here and it may just be me 🙂. I had been running a Thunder with the following specs:
2x 1200MP's
1G Crucial PC2100 Reg./ECC
Tyan Tiger MPX
VisionTek GeForce3 TI 500
18.4 GB Seagate Cheetah X15 36LP
Adaptec 39160 HBA
Promise Fasttrack 100tx2 IDE RAID
2x 60GB IBM 60GXP in RAID 1
Audigy MP3
Klipsch Promedia 4.1 Spkrs
TDK 24/10/40
BTC 16x DVD
I installed my new Pony GeForce4 TI 4600 and all hell broke loose. At first the Tyan still recognized the Promise RAID. But since the IRQ or memory addresses changed it no longer would boot from the adaptec SCSI controller. Ok no problem, I had this issue when I first put this system together a few months back. Swapping the cards to different slots did the trick. Upon and ever since the first swap the system no longer see's the IDE RAID at all..🙁. Stripped the unit down to 2x cpu's, video card, memory and Promise RAID controller only. The BIOS does not see the RAID controller in ANY slot. I even tried an Abit ATA100 IDE RAID controller with the HiPoint chipset... no-go. So I figure maybe a new BIOS will help. I was running the 2.09, 2.10 just released!!....but was no help 🙁. I tried every BIOS back to 2.06 and banged the hell outta the BIOS settings while swapping the RAID controllers to all the PCI slots...no dice. Even tried the old GeForce3 and a Matrox PCI video card in the mix with no avail. I even installed an Adaptec AAA-133U2 SCSI RAID controller as I have a few Seagate 18GB drives I could use. The system now only reports the first SCSI HBA BIOS it runs accross and does not register the other at all..its one or the other PERIOD!!Really late last nite I gave up. Could not understand how I jacked the system up but I have work critical stuffs from the last few days (weekly backups to DLT only help soo much) on that RAID so I decided to try a new MOBO today.
Got the Tiger MPX andd decided to get another XP1700 to match one I already had. So here are my current system specs:

Notice the absence of the RAID controller..?? Same sad a$$ situation!! 🙁 I ended up tossing the RAID controller in a system with the SOYO dragon Plus with a KT266A chipset to get at my data.
Ok final words... I'm still puzzled as hell why this setup refuses to work now as it was working fine just 36 long hours ago. Promise's website is as useless as Tyan's when it comes to real support. I'd rather not spend hours on hold trying to get a live hooman-bein. Anyone have ne idea what I might try next??? Plz help ol'scoot out!!
