In case you missed out the last time around like I did, here's the link.

I wish I had a house full of these. :D

P.S. The S1833D is the OEM version of the S1832DL.

<edit> If you've never ordered from them before go here and get a coupon for $10 off any order over $50 for brand new members.

Russ, As long as you're being "WEAK WILLED" I probably shouldn't mention that Mushkin's got FREE FREIGHT on all orders in the US, and their 256MB Rev1.5 2-2-2 bricks on sale. You can get a 3 pack (768MB of SDRAM) for only $288! That's only $0.375 per MB!!!

I couldn't afford the 3 pack so I went with a single brick for $99.

Also found some case badges at Directron.com. But the best ones are here: Bikini Babes.

Picked up some spare parts at Computer Surplus Outlet. Had to have some spare floppy drives, cables, small hard drives, crappy PCI video cards so I can build another DUALLY!

It's been a good night. I've racked up just over $400 on my credit card. All those extra MK/s will be worth every penny though! :D

If you're going to order these from Overstock.com freight free you better do it quick...

<< I'm writing to inform you that we've decided to implement a $3.95 shipping charge, effective March 26, 2001. This new policy will enable us to keep our prices low, while we bring you a much broader selection of products, including CD's, books, videos, and many other items that we could not offer in the past because of the cost of shipping and handling.

We've worked hard to keep our shipping charge as low and simple as possible. There are no hidden fees, and you won't have to use complicated shipping charts. For only $3.95, you will be able to ship your order anywhere in the 48 contiguous states?no matter what the weight, quantity, size, or cost of your order. From a Citizen wristwatch to a dining room table, the shipping charge will be the same.

Your order will still leave our warehouse within two business days (but generally the same day). For those occasions when you need something in a hurry, we also offer premium overnight shipping service (available for select products at a slightly higher cost).

I'm proud that Overstock.com is the Internet leader for name-brand products at clearance prices, and I hope you will continue to visit us often. Please let us know how we can improve our service to you.

Thank you for your patronage.

Sincerely,

Patrick Byrne

Alright Men and Women.... help me out.

Why is this such a great find? I haven't really read up on the board.. is it a good board for overclocking or is it just that it is a cheap dual? With the Intel chips still so expensive, I'm trying to figure out why this would be a better deal than a couple of cheap Socket A mobo's and a couple of Durons. I know you guys aren't fools, so my only assumption is that I must be overlooking something that is obvious to everyone else.

Thanks,

Joe

Does this board work ok with slotket adapters? i've got a couple 533 fc cellerons that would go good in it if it does work. oh well ordered it any way, what the heck. ;)

Good!! both of these chips go 850 with no problem in a BX board, i hope they will in the tyan. also does the dnet client use both processors ok in win98?

As far as I know, the flip-chip Celerons can't run dual on any board. :( PPGA would, however.

No, Win98 isn't able to detect your 2 CPUs. You have to upgrade to a real OS : Linux, Win2000, NT4, BeOS....

Joe,

It's a good board because there are so many dirt cheap Katmai's laying around now. I used six of these boards with an even dozen P2-300's that I got for FREE.:) All are running at 450. So, I have six 900Mhz nodes that cost $89 for board and chips.:D

In other words, if you have CPU pulls laying around doing nothing, it's a good way to put them to work. Now, if starting from scratch, it might make more sense to go the Duron route - although the boards are still on the high end range price-wise.

It is also a great little server board, solid and reliable. Both my servers use it, and one gets a hell of a lot of traffic with a couple hundred people fetching and flushing, and all these stats freaks refreshing every 30 seconds.:D

BTW, as long as you use the 100Mhz CPU's, these also work just fine with the Coppermines all the way to 850Mhz.

ßGød,

Okay, I did click one of those links and ordered some cheap video cards. I'm done now, though.:)

Man, I'm tempted to buy this board but I still have an ASUS CUSL2 lying around. I still need a hard drive and a cpu for the ASUS.

Damn just bought one, now I'm really broke:( :(

Thanks Russ. The missing piece to my puzzle was that I don't have any of the aforementioned CPU's laying around. I'm hoping to convince my boss to let me upgrade about 8 P2-350's and 3 P2-400's to P3-600's (512k). Unfortunatly, I pretty much made the jump a couple of years ago at work from 233MMX's to P2-350's. I've got a single 333, but that's my only 66MHz chip left.

At the price you mention though, perhaps I can put together an 800MHz Dual and a few 700MHz dual nodes.

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

If you do the upgrades, those pulls would be perfect for these boards. If they're really good CPU's, you might even be able to squeeze a little more out of them, since the Tiger has FSB settings above 100Mhz.

Russ, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's weak willed. :D

I thought more people would have know about this particular board because of Russ' previous posts about it being so cheap on Overstock.com. I missed out the last time they had them in stock. I wound up buying a retail Tyan S1832DL Tiger 100 for $147 shipped. OUCH!

Just figured I'd pass on the great deal I found to the people that would do the most good with it - Distributed Computing Forum Members. The guys that lurk over in Hot Deals would have snatched them all up if I'd posted it in there.

Russ is right, these are good boards; I've got two of them already from the last time this deal was available. As to the Duron issue, remember with a dual board, you need only one power supply to support two processors.

I'm trying hard to resist buying a couple this time due to other commitments I have. :|
