tx 650 v2 Vs tx 850 old version

TX650 V2 should be plenty of wattage for most setups. What setup are you planning to use it for?

Well just your average non sli gaming rig. The problem is I need one now and I can pick up the 850 today or I can get the 650 on wed. Same price for both. I guess my question is it worth it to be without a pc for a few days for the 650 v2?

For a non SLI gaming rig, you don't even need 650W. 500-550W is fine. Which CPU and GPU, are they overclocked and by how much? Where are you buying?

I'm not worried about power. I know both are mire than enough. It's the technology and newness of the original vs v2 I am not sure of.

Are you not worried about cost either? Because a 500-550W unit would obviously cost less and still be plenty for a single GPU setup. On the other hand, if cost isn't a problem why not buy a gold rated modular unit?

If you really don't have any options than TX650 V2 and TX850, there's no point not to go for the newer unit. TX850 would just be unnecessarily overkill and it'd be less efficient at idle due to the efficiency being rated from 20% to 100% load. Below 20%, efficiency typically spikes down pretty fast, so the lower the wattage the closer the idle power consumption will be to the 20% mark.

Still interested about your setup, wondering why you're so keen to keep that info private.

Didn't mean to keep that info private, I was on my phone and didn't want to type everything out. Here is my setup. I'd like to get the XFX PRO 550 core edition if it can handle it, but according to http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp I need 600W. My current PSU that died this morning is some OCZ xtreme 600W.

i7 920 OC'd to 3.6Ghz
6x2GB DDR Ram
Radeon 6950 OC'd to 6970 speeds.
3x7200rpm HD's
4 fans

Online PSU calculators overestimate wattage needs in order to compensate for bad quality units, ones that can't actually output their rated wattage cleanly in any conditions.

OK, since your setup is OC'd it consumes probably close to 400 watts during heavy gaming. TX650 V2 isn't a bad idea even though XFX 550W should handle it fine as it's rated for continuous 550W at 50C.

What does the XFX 550W cost compared to TX650 V2?

the XFX is $25 cheaper which is what makes it so tempting. $65 vs $90. I could get the Corsair for $69 after rebate on newegg but I'd have to wait a couple extra days and I've never had a successful rebate so I'm skeptical.

OK, with the rebate the Corsair is definitely a better deal. I don't see the TX650 V2 for that price at newegg though (not .com or .ca). ? Is this some special promo?

Can you order from MC? There's PC Power & Cooling MK III 600W for $80 ($60 AR). It's a Seasonic build just like TX650 V2 and XFX, and it's modular.
