Two ZoneAlarm questions: How can I allow users to access my FTP server? What does pass lock mean in the programs list?

Ok

I have my FTP server program in the programs list, I have it checked to allow it to connect both local and internet and I have it checked to allow server for both as well. People still aren't getting onto my FTP...

And what is the passlock setting beside it do?

Edit: Sorry about the wrong forum 😱 I was reading my thread about software fire walls over in the software forum right before I posted this and I thought I hit new topic there 😱

you may have set the security setting too high for internet, try bringing down to medium for internet

pass lock is an option to by pass the internet lock. you can decide to lock internet if you sense someone is hacking your box, and only the selected programs that are allowed to pass the lock will pass through the lock (heh, sounds like i am repeating myself).

ahh ok, so if I have that locked down thing active then passlock programs can still run.

My shields up was pretty good, apperntly it knows that my computer is there, but NetBIOS failed and the other one failed to.

All the port scans showed nil as well so I'm pretty happy with it.

How do I unlock a specific port to listen on? Lets say my FTP server is configured to run on port 1234 (it's not, but it's a non-standard port) can I tell ZoneAlarm to let anything incoming through that port specifically?

Yes, you can tell Zonealarm to allow specific ports. But i've tried that before and it doesn't work for me.

THat's why i switched to BlackIce. You can configure the ports to allow or block manually and it actually works.

By the way, shieldsup doesn't test much. You could try this site
