Thought I would add a new thread on Two Worlds MMORPG.

Two Worlds Homepage. .

quote:
New Release Date for "Two Worlds" in Europe

+++ Balancing and Multiplayer Options being further perfected +++

"Two Worlds" fans in Europe must be patient for a few weeks longer than originally planned before starting to explore the enormous world of Antaloor. The release date has been put back to May the 9th 2007. CEO Alexandra Constandache: "It's the atmosphere of a game that really suffers if the balancing isn't quite perfect or if annoying bugs make life difficult - especially in the RPG sector. We're fortunate enough to be in a position where we ourselves can determine when our game will be marketed - and we have taken the decision to postpone its release for a short time. The time gained will be used to further perfect the multiplayer aspect. We'll be publishing more info next week about this feature."
"Two Worlds" will be released at the beginning of May for PC and Xbox 360 in English, French and German localisation.

Info to link on no monthly fee ,

After the last Press-Release there were many misunderstandings. To clarify it all, we asked ZuxxeZ for more details on the MP.

Here are the facts:

2. Currently PC and Xbox 360 Owners cannot play together. It *can* be that in the future Windows Vista and Xbox 360 Users can join together in one game via Xbox Live.

3. You will not have to pay a monthly fee, not on PC and not on the Xbox 360.

PC screenshots.

UPDATE!:
quote:
The hot trend in gaming is Massively Multiplayer Online games. SouthPeak Games is hopping on the bandwagon, turning Two Worlds into an MMORPG for PC. The Xbox 360 version remains a more intimate experience, eschewing the "massive" descriptor for its multiplayer experience. When last we saw Two Worlds, it supported just eight players online. Now it will support thousands on PC.

Lozina : I don't think anybody knows at this time, all I can find is this,

One of the most interesting aspects of the game is that, unlike Oblvion, it also features a masssively multiplayer online mode. It also features unique quests, an arena for one-on-one battles, multiplayer horse races and completely customisable player characters with no level capping. Exciting stuff, eh?

Melanie Mroz, executive vice president of developer SouthPeak Games is certainly pumped. "Two Worlds is an astounding achievement for both Reality Pump and SouthPeak Games," she said. "RPG gamers won't be able to find a more involving or expansive experience to satiate their digital wanderlust. I'm confident that Two Worlds is set to take its place in the RPG hall of fame."

From the preview I read in PC Gamer, I think this is more of a single player game a la Oblivion and Gothic 3 with a multi player component in certain specially designed maps, and not an MMO in the true sense of the word a la WoW or EQ; ie, no persistent world all characters to live in.

Info is scant so I may be wrong.

EDIT: Reading the link from the OP, it seems the PC Gamer preview is outdated, and that the game has changed quite a bit, and that it might actually be a real MMO.

That's the problem, game has changed and nobody at the moment knows how the retail version will end up like, all we can do is watch for news updates and progress, lets hope it stays a real MMORPG.

I dont believe anything PC Gamer says anymore.
Especially not in regards to a game that isnt even out yet.

Having said that: I hate paying a monthly fee for a game so this may be worth looking into.

I have a feeling it'll be more like Guildwars when it comes to massively multiplayer. A central town does not make your game an MMO

It does now thanks to the likes of Turbine and Guild Wars.

Diablo II I guess could be considered an MMO now.

Nah, it's not a graphical lobby in Diablo 2. Doesn't count.

Interview on Two Worlds@IGN

IGN: How large is the map in Two Worlds?

Alexandra Constandache: We have created a huge continent for players to discover. They will find forests, snow-covered mountains, rivers, deserts and even a sprawling underworld. The raw numbers are approximately 30 square kilometres of surface space and roughly 25 kilometres in the dungeons. As you can see, that's quite a bit of land to traverse but we've found an excellent balance between giving players the freedom to roam in combination with well-presented quests. They won't have to stray far to find a quest.

I'm actually doing a project about MMOs for one of my courses, I might have to incorporate cutting-edge info about MMOs such as this one. Interesting indeed.

Some news,(Release date still June 26th).

XBOX 360 screenshots ,quite a few to look at (58).

First HD trailer .

Two Worlds Hands-On preview@IGN.

What we haven't had the chance to see is multiplayer, which we have to admit, remains a bit of a mystery. The 360 version will support up to eight players that can party up and rampage across the landscape. The PC version will apparently support up to 200 and we assume the servers will be run by the publisher. We're also assuming some of the game rules about respawning enemies will have to change as well or later players will come in to a server with nothing to fight.

We're also assuming that it'll be harder to kill neutral NPCs as well or else some of the jerkier players could just slaughter the world and leave nothing for the rest. We'll have to fill you in with more details as they become clearer since we're not entirely sure that anyone knows exactly how it's going to work.

I have just watched the short trailer, game looks something like Gothic 3 and Oblivion, more Gothic 3 to be honest.

I hope the game lives up to expectations.

I just saw the IGN hands on. I really hope this comes out without a ton of bugs like Gothic and Dark Messiah.
