Two wireless routers, both slow..

When I connect my laptop directly to my cable modem I'll get around 5-6mbps, however when I'd connect it to my router and go wireless, the speed drops to .8-1.5mbps on average, with two different routers that I've tried.

If I connect via ethernet to the router the speed is fast as well, but for whatever reason the wireless signal is weak on it. There's not much in the way of interference that I can tell, there's nothing around the devices at all, and I've tried different channels..and they all result in slow speeds.

Any suggestions?
 
What OS are you running?
Are you using the software that came with your WLAN adapter or using Windows/Linux auto config?
Have you tried to reinstall/update your drivers?

This and your neighbor could have a wireless security system or baby monitor also that is wrecking the signal. You need to use an analyzer to see the crap in the area.
 
a) I'm using speedtest.net
b) Only this laptop..although I use this laptop at work too which has no speed issues.
c) If there is interference what options do I have?
