Two wireless access points side-by-side - Interference issues?

I need to mount a number of new access points near locations for current access points. Right now, the current ones are used for wireless barcode scanning. The new ones will be used for mobile wireless users in the same area. Is there going to be an issue placing them side by side? Is there a recommended distance between access points?

What mode are you running? Check out this link for channel selection/placement of overlapping wireless service:

There are only 3 non-overlapping channels; 1, 6 and 11

So long as they are each on a differant channel and they do not overlap you should be okay.

Well sort of. If we assume your talking about 802.11b or g then yes, 3 non overlapping channels. And I guess it's safe to assume that. But if yoru running 5 Ghz radios then you have more room to play with.

Good point

Nope, 802.11g. There are currently three APs in place, channels 1, 6, and 11. So I'll shuffle the new ones around so that they do not line up.

you never know until you try.

Sometimes you can have access points right on top of each other, same channel and not really have problems. It's not recommended however.
