I have a wrt54gl v1.1 and wrt54g v5 and I want to connect them together. The gl is connected to the cable modem, and I have 3 pc's running wired off of it. Can I connect the 54g to the gl vial a lan port, so I can connect three more pc's upstairs?
I want to keep all the pc's on the same internal ip range for sharing files and music.

Now my way of thinking is, a crossover cable from the lan port of the gl to a lan port of the g, or should I just use a straight thru cable from the lan port to the wan port of the g?

Thanks

Perhaps you can turn it into a switch? If not, perhaps you'll need to define the routing from one router to the other.

I've not done a two router setup, but I got three of them to play with. I should try.

If the first Router core IP is 192.168.1.0 set the second Router to 192.168.1.1

Disable the DHCP on the second Router and connect the two Router regulat port to regular port with crossover cable (leave the WAN port of the second router open.

When did they start putting Linksys routers on /23s by default? ;)

Thanks much, but I used a straight thru cable and all is well

Yap, if the Router has MDX ports it adjust automatically to the cables.
