hello!

I recently bought the Abit NF7-S with a single stick of 512Mb of PC3200 memory which I've stuck into the single memory slot. I am but a poor student at uni and so I can't really afford the second stick yet, but when I can I plan to buy a further 512Mb and then use the dual channel feature. (is this possible, I heared talk of the RAM having to be matched or something?)

In the meantime, could I put the memory of my old computer in the two dual channel slots (it's 2 x 256Mb of what I beleive is PC2700 memory: the old computerhd the K7T266 Pro Mobo running at 266MHz) and keep the 3200 running in the single slot? this would give me a gig of RAM and could boost performance in games, etc. (I plan to run a whole bunch of benchmarks before and after).

Is this possible or will something fry?

Thanks for your help... :D

I had 1x 256MB Mushkin PC3200 and 1x 256MB Corsair PC3200 running in Dual-Channel with no problems whatsoever, so I guess it just depends what manufacturers you use. :)

I did a similar thing, first had a stick of Mushkin PC2700 from a former mobo, then dropped a TwinMOS PC3200 in there and it's humming nicely at 205MHz in DC :) For compairson's sake, the Mushkin uses Samsung modules and the TwinMOS uses WinBond modules, so they can be completely different... YMMV though. Using an NF7-S 1.0 BTW.
