Two Towers trailer over-analysis *possible spoilers*

Ok, I finished reading TTT a week or so ago. Now watching the trailer again I have a couple of issues.

- Galadriel was not in the book. And what's this about the "quest will take his life" stuff?
- Arwen was not in the book either! I guess they are boosting up the Aragorn/Arwen love thing like in TFOTR, but why?
- "Saroun is not so mighty yet that he is above fear" Gandalf says it here, but Aragorn actually says it in the beginning of ROTK.

Ok, that's really it. I think the movie will be great and I trust Jackson above anyone else to translate the book whatever way he sees fit. Though, Liv Tyler getting extra screen time is pretty annoying. Still, it's only a 1/10 on the Jar-jar scale, so no big deal.

edit

I am not down with ROTK, so please don't spoil it 🙂 Thanks.

I think the extra screen time by Arwen is really going to screw things up. She should keep her happy ass back at Imladris until the third movie when she is called for by her man like in the book.

Wow you got chatty all of a sudden 😉

I'm perfectly happy not critically comparing the movies to the books. The books deliver the story in a much more epic manner. The movie... like a movie should... rush you through the story and don't concentrate to much on the details. They're both good, in thier own way.

<< Galadriel was not in the book. >>

She was not in TTT. They mentioned her, but she did appear in it.

I think they are gonna deviate alot from the books but it won't be too bad
because they have to fill in information somehow. Like in the trailer they have aragorn?
(I think it was) finding the elven brooch that Pippin and Merry dropped, unless you had
read the book you wouldn't know that they had received the gifts in Lothlorien.
I'm guessing in a quick flashback they will show it, but stuff like that is what might happen.
And they *have* to Frodo getting Lembas, how will they explain him surviving?
As the movie progresses I think that it will deviate more and more from the books.

It's F*CKING TRAIL MIX, WHO CARES!!!

The only way to answer your first question is to put a spoiler, so read below if you choose:

****spoiler********

when galadriel says "quest will claim his life" my take on it is that she means the ring's influence will never leave him, nor will the wound from the nazgul. this is why at the end of ROTK his only choice to go pass onto the west, therefore claiming his "life" even though he gets to finish off the rest of his years in the undying lands.

****end spoiler******

also IIRC, Gandalf is given his new white garments and staff in Lothlorien, what you see in the trailer could be him talking to Galadriel.

As for Arwen, this is a m-o-v-i-e folks. You can't just show here in movie #1, have her skip a whole movie and come back in #3. Her appearance will probably be even MORE brief than it was in FOTR. If Aragorn ends up getting Anduril in TTT, then I expect Arwen will bring it to him from Rivendell. If he doesn't get it in TTT, it has also been rumored that ROTK's opening scene is the shards of Narsil being reforged in Rivendell's foundry.

As for Gandalf saying Aragorn's line, they did this many times in FOTR as well. Lots of the narrative needs to change to work in a 3 hour movie. At least they are keeping some lines! An example in FOTR is Galadriel's opening lines before the prologue...these are actually spoken by Treebeard near the end of ROTK!!

I don't see the big deal with the whole Arwen thing. Liv Tyler did a good job at it IMO, a hell of a lot better than I expected. She also had barely any screen time, and this'll be even less in TTT probably. Don't sweat it...TTT is going to rock FOTR (if that's even possible)!

yep,

I'm going to have to agree with kami, sure there will be deviations, but from what jackson did in FOTR, I am not worried that they will ruin everything. Of course galadriel will be back, probably as flashbacks it happens. Don't worry about it and sit back and enjoy the movie.

And finish ROTK😀
