TWO things they need to ban on radio NOW.

StageLeft

No Lifer
1) I am actually surprised that it's legal to allow sirens on radio commercials. I find that sometimes when I hear them I can not tell for a second if it's on the radio or outside.

2) Radio commercial jingles. Holy crap. I have going through my head now "Tuscaloosa Toyota...Tuscaloosa toyota.com!" It just will not go away. While we're at it ban it for tv as well. The WORST ever is for bernstein - some cheesy lawyer. It has some woman singing "Call Bernstein...800...600...6014" And if you heard this you'd know what I mean.

i agree wholeheartedly on #1

and #2 for that matter

and im sure we could create a list of 1000 other things.

hell lets just ban radio altogether.

Agreed. I also remember SNL having one of those stupid "We interrupt your regular broadcasting for this important announcement from the president" 2 weeks after 9/11 . That was just freaken tasteless. I almost thought we got attacked again.

Complete agreement with #1. I heard of a college dj getting charged with contributing to a riot. (really... it was just a snowball fight between 2 colleges that share the same street.... snowball fight with rocks, fireworks, baseball bats, 1000's in damage, and a bb gun.)

#2: Hey, then the ad agency is doing their job. I propose that if someone has a really catchy jingle that gets stuck in our heads, causing who knows what kind of damage to our cerebellum, we should just resist the voices and cease buying the advertised product.

#1 i agree with
#2- well...the marketing is obviously working if you remember everything they are selling. I'd say that is good business.

I agree with #1. Also add to that honking horns. They are a warning also, and sometimes more urgent than a siren.

#2 - I agree with pyonir. They got the song to stick in your head, and even if you hate it, you will think of them first when you need their product / service.

It's not good buisness if you hate their jingle so much it turns you off of their product. I've heard a few commercials that annoyed me so much I've made it a point never to purchase anything from the offending company. Bad buisness.

I would say the large majority don't think that way. Why do you think sooooo many companies continue to do it? Obviously it works well.

EDIT: you forget how many stupid people there are in the world...

Sirens, horns, and SCREECHING TIRES! I HATE when some commercial has screeching tires in it and then you look around frantically to see who's about ready to slam into you. :|

Eh, I suppose you've got a point. I don't really buy into advertising anyway so I look at it a bit differently I guess.

I'm the same way...so understand completely.

I think they recently banned the use of sirens on commercials on both radio and TV in Ky. My dad is in advertising and I think he's the one who told me that. Of course using bight flashing lights that casue little kids and the elderly to have epileptic fits is still possible.
