Two separate ram kits? (2010 iMac)

Just installed two 4GB (8GB total) sticks into my cousins 2010 iMac but I'm wondering if I can keep the previous 4GB (2x2GB) installed in the third and fourth slot?

Would that impact memory performance? Two matching sets of different size ram. It would be under the maximum amount of memory the computer can handle, which is 16GB.

Yeah, it would be fine. I run 2x2GB and 2x1GB (for 6GB total) kits in my 2009 27" iMac and it works fine. With Intel's Flex Dual channel RAM, I doubt you would notice a difference in performance unless you do really memory-intensive workflows.
