Two Repair/Upgrade Questions

1) I am getting a message on boot-up that my chip fan is spinning too slowly or not at all, etc. I can press F1 to continue and the computer seems to run just fine. I opened up the case and cleared out all the dust, but that didn't help. Do I need to replace the heatsink or do something else?

2) I am considering upgrading my machine with a second video card in SLI mode. Does the second video card have to be exactly identical to the first? No one seems to sell the exact same one that I bought back in 12/05. Also, is it true that you can't run 2 monitors in SLI mode?

Thanks for any help.

Does your CPU fan use the three wire connector? If so, the third wire has the speed sensing info. If your fan has only two wires, the system won't sense the rotation speed. If your temps are OK, you may be able to defeat the error message in the CMOS.

If your rig is new enough, maybe you can return the HS/fan under warranty. If not, and you can see that the fan is turning slowly, you may be able to buy a replacement fan for less than a complete HS/fan combo. Check the voltage and current ratings on the fan, and buy one that's similar. Do spend the money for one with double ball bearings.
