Two reasons why Steam sucks

Steam has always got on my nerves. They don't take care of things here and there. Here's a couple that currently bother me...

No friends list. The friends list in steam has been "under repair" for over a year probably, does it really take that long to fix?

This one really bothers me:

No way to mute annoying people. It's possible to mute people's voice, but not their text chat. They can just spam huge lines of ignorant racist crap over and over and over and take up one third of the screen and you cannot mute them. There hasn't been a way to mute people on steam for a loooong time as well, back when it was just regular CS you could mute people, but not now for some reason, they got rid of that feature and even though i've seen lots and lots of people request it, they don't add that feature, as if they don't want to. It probably wouldn't take that long to add.

Steam still seems to ignore any of it's user's suggestions/ideas.

I don't know if they ignore per se, but they do take longer than I'd like w/ updates. However their getting a lot better at releasing updates quick... every other day it seems like something is updated. The friends list has never really worked right, but has been 'under repair' for a few months. That's what Xfire is for, use it, it's great.

The muting text would be a good idea... it's been a while and I was young when I played 1.6 and I don't remember being able to do that. But I guess you could and I just missed it, so maybe I'm a little biased in the fact that I don't know what I'm missing.

Their working furiously on Aftermath. A few months after that's released things will really start picking up. They've recently been busy w/ other things like Lost Coast and the new 64 bit source, so maybe that explains the delay in new features.

Why are they stupid reasons? Do you like people spamming huge lines of text constantly so you can't see most of the screen? There are certainly many problems with steam, but those two things just came to mind after logging into steam and playing a game for the first time in a long while, and noticing steam hadn't changed a bit. Another thing i hate about Steam/Valve is the hitboxes in CS: Source, damn they are bad

The second has nothing to do with Steam. It would be a good idea to have that option though.

I really do not have an issue with steam. While it can be annoying, I think it is a good measure to prevent piracy. Steam is an anti piracy program first, all other features are secondary. I do not recall another fps game where you can mute someone's text and voice. If you need to know when friends are online, then xfire is a great tool for that.

Counterstrike != Steam.

I'm not a big fan of the friends list, but you're correct that it should work and given what steam does it should be a priority.

Yes, there should be a way to mute players text, I agree. However, I can tolerate the text spamming...I'm just happy they made a cvar to block downloading of crappy beavis and butthead sounds. That was my main complaint for months.

My major problem with Steam for the moment:
It won't recognise its own backups.
Tried to restore HL/HL2/Lost Coast, and it insists on redownloading HL2 and Lost Coast, even when I tried again to restore the backup.
The game files are also in the Steam directory, so they dont need downloading, and it's not like they didn't restore properly.

I didn't have that problem. Surprisingly, Steam picked up my HL2 just fine.
