Motherboard monitor says my cpu temp is 57c. It's a celeron2 566@637, connected to my abit bx6-1.0 with an iwill sloket2. I have a globalwin fdp32 cooler and arctic silver thermal paste. Why the hell is it so hot, I modified the heatsink so it would make good contact with the cpu. Could it be because I put too much thermal paste on?

My second question is: How can I get my mainboard to let me have more volts than 1.70. I want 850 mhz. Right now it posts with 850 and then stops right before the os loads.
 
I think (not totally sure), but there was a voltage trick with the BX6-2. (it might work with the original BX6)

What you would do is set your cpu to default speed (566 in your case), and increase the voltage to the max it will go to (yours seems to be 1.7v - mine was 2.3 for my c300a), and you reflash the bios.
 
Small metal thing on the bottom of the heatsink?

Did you get the heatsink and it specifically says FCPGA heatsink? Because those stands at the bottom of the heatsink provides support for the rest of the heatsink on the chip. Otherwise, the little square in the middle which is the core would be crushed.

Or maybe I am getting advice mixed up here. Anyway, heat is common in overclocking I would think. It is not expected to run cool.
 
yeah, it was meant to provide support, but with the piece on there, It was not making contact with the cpu (which makes a heatsink useless from what I understand).
