Two questions

Is buying an "open box" board from newegg a good way to save or is it a crap shoot most of the time?

Second, which is a better buy for overclocking, the Maximus II Formula or the P5Q Pro?

Thanks very much.

Open box is a roll of the dice. It can be missing the manual. cables and driver CD, or the metal plate / IO shield.

No idea on the OC.

Heyya, =)

The P5Q Pro has all the OC options you want and none of the marketing crap that comes with the Maximus II. They are basically the same board and should get similiar results in overclocking. If you can do without the extras the core features like BIOS, energy saving features, RAID, Firewire, etc. are almost identical.

I'd go with the cheaper P5Q PRO. It's got all of the connectivity and OC potential without the added bells and whistles that most of us don't want or need.
