two questions on plasma screens

I just purchased a Panasonic 50" ST30 and have finished about 125 hours of break-in, and have a couple of questions:

1. I am seeing a very faint cross-hatch pattern on the screen. Mostly I notice the vertical bands which are about an inch or so across, especially along the right edge. But I do see a cross-hatch pattern in there across the entire screen as well. One of my friends could also see it, but another could not. I don't see it under normal viewing, but under monochrome slides or otherwise blank/bright screens. Is this normal? This is my first plasma screen. Is it possibly a defective screen?

2. I have read about game modes which reduce input lag by trimming back the technology processing the image. I thought the ST30 had such a mode, but not sure where it is. I see the game mode where you calibrate the image - next to cinema, vivid, custom, etc. Is this the mode I'm thinking of? I think this mode is only another set of calibration settings, just like the others with different numbers. Or does this mode reduce lag? I haven't yet played any games since I'm still breaking it in. Just a few minutes here and there, and nothing where input lag would really jump out at me. Is there another setting somewhere that would be the "game" mode I'm thinking of?

Thanks!
