Two Questions: Is Cabo Wabo Tequila worth the price AND can I add rum to store bought eggnog and get the same effect?

Couple of questions:

Last week I was at the drugstore picking up a perscription and I wandered by the liquor selection (yes, in ohio, drug stores can be state liquor agencies, we also have beer at gas stations and drive through carryouts that sell alcohol) to see they had two bottles of Cabo Wabo Tequila at $44.90 each. Now I *really* like tequila and am wondering if the Cabo Wabo is worth $45. I'm not about to experiment with that kind of money.

I like eggnog around this time of year. I've never made my own, but I usually end up buying a carton of the stuff at the store. This is my first christmas being 21, so I thought I'd try it with rum this year. I dont' want to mix up a ton and find out I hate it, so would any harm come from just mixing it in the correct proportions with the store-bought kind?

I'm no tequila connisseur, so I can't help you on that one.

As far as the store-bought egg nog and rum, i've never had it any other way. ;)

Well college student, so I pretty much just drink Cuervo. I've had the Cuervo 1800 and found it quite good, but its nearly as expensive as the Cabo Wabo stuff. Every year, I buy myself a Christmas present with any money I get, this year it'll be either an optical mouse if no one else gets me one, a set of Klipsch 2.1's, or a bottle of this Cabo Wabo stuff.

I don't want to make my own egg nog, too afraid I'll either screw it up or end up with a bunch that has the alcohol in it that I either won't drink myself or won't like.

The Cabo is made from PURE agave distillates. The Cuervo may contain other alcohol's, which make the effect rough.
The Cabo is worth the money, but if you're just going to get hammered and puke it up, buy the Cuervo. :D

I've never had Cabo Wabo, so can't comment as to that brand being worth it, but $44 a bottle for premium tequila isn't all that much really. It seems like a lot when compared to the stuff like Cuervo and Sauza, but there are tequilas on the market that sell for 4 or 5 times that. But unless you're a truly hardcore tequila-phile or are just looking to impress somebody with how much you spent it's hard to imagine anything costing that much being worth it. I'm a bourbon fan and have tasted some incredibly expensive small-batch bourbons, but none of them stack up with the more common brands like Wild Turkey on a bang-for-the-buck basis. Once beyond a certain price point it's like buying stereo equipment. You wind up doubling or tripling the cost for only marginal improvements that only a small percentage of people can appreciate or even notice.

Buy tequila that costs half as much, then you can afford to buy twice as much. After the first few shots nobody notices the taste anyway.

I'm definately a tequila connoisseur and I don't think I'd be buying Cabo Wabo just for the name. It's a definate "for export to the US only" tequila. I've never tried it; hell it may be great for all I know, but I seriously doubt it.

If you want some good tequilas try Patron, El Tesoro, Porfidio, Don Julio (if you can find it), or Tres Generaciones.

Edit: BTW, all those mentioned I consider breakfast tequilas: smooth enough to enjoy for breakfast, especially the Porfidio Añejo Extra which cost about $70.00 in the States and is sold in a little ceramic gourd.

If you're just going to dilute it with ice, triple sec and store-bought margarita mix, it's definitely a waste.

What? And ruin a perfectly good eggnog? Nah, you need Maker's Mark to finish off the eggnogg rightly.

Mr. Bond You have Kay Rogez stores up there, right? (spelled Kroger's :p )
Buy a half gallon of their eggnog. It's amazingly pretty good and not expensive.
Then experiment with adding the bourbon (or if you must, rum) and maybe a scoop of Baskin Robbins eggnoog ice cream.

/can't wait till I'm home with the folks and sharing a glass of eggnog with my dad.
:D

Joke:
two little girls are sitting next to each other, each with a glass of eggnog
First girl: I can spell "eggnog" wanna hear it?
Second girl: Sure.
First girl: E G G P N O G
Second girl: Hey, there's no pee in "eggnog."
First girl: There is in yours.

I have never had Cabo Wabo but I bet it is pretty good.

Some very good tequilias that I have had:

Conquistador <favorite
Don Julio
el Correlajo
Revolucion
El Patron <favorite

Like someone else said. If you goal is to make margaritas or to do shots. DONT BUY THIS STUFF. HighEnd tequilia are meant to be enjoyed at a leasurely pace, neat and at room tempature.

Don't forget a nice jigger of Sangrita to drink with it.

Oh yeah, I had no intentions of making margaritas out of the Cabo Wabo stuff if I buy it. It's too damn cold for them, and besides, I've got cheaper cuervo for that.

Yeah, we've got Kroeger here, I usually get that kind of eggnog too :). I definatly have rum, the burbon is questionable. I think my parents have a bottle of it somewhere so I'll have to go exploring when I head home for the holiday.

And LOL at the eggnog joke. :D

I know a guy who is a tequila nut, see my sig for his site. He raves about Patron Anno. Its like $60 a bottle. Don Fillipe is good stuff but $138 a bottle. He said its like you're tripping on acid when you drink it. The Cabo Wabo Anno is $80ish a bottle. Personally I like Sauza, and don't drink that high end stuff.
