*EDIT* I fixed it. The problem was pretty simple. I just went to the trillian website, read up some and installed patch D. It fixed the problem. I still don't know why the problem seemed to have spread from trillian to Winamp and MSN though. But everything is running good now. Thx to all those who tried to help!

Ok I know these two problems Im having are more software related, but I fear that it may have to do with hardware as well. Im not sure.

When I run my winamp 3, which has previously ran fine before, I get an error saying This

then this

And then when I run my trillian I get an error saying this

Trillian has also worked fine before, on occassions I would get a similar error, but not sure if it was exact some one. But now I am getting both these non stop and I can't get either program to work. I tried defragging, it didnt help any. Any ideas/suggestions?

Two of the errors point to memory addresses... Could it be a problem with your RAM? Maybe try MemTest and see? Otherwise I have no idea, as I don't use either program...

Also, I just started running memtest. It says it will report errors instantly according to the manual. I ran the programs that gave me the erorrs, of course got them again. But there was no reported error to memtest. Hrmm?

Get Memtest86 it will only run from a boot disk before the OS is loaded. This will thoroughly test the memory and rule out any possible problems/corruption of your software.

Im assuming that isn't free? If this is the case, my computer is still under warranty from *gasp* gateway. So should I just call them up and tell them Im having problems? How would I explain this to them? They treat everyone like they are idiots and all they need to do is restart their computer. And I def. don't want to have to reformat when I call them if I have bad RAM yah know?

Memtest86 is free link

If your RAM is at all flaky this will find it, and if it gets through all the tests without errors (could take up to 30 mins depending on how much RAM and the cpu speed for 1 complete cycle) then you can call gateway and be sure the RAM at least is good.

I ran Memtest for a good 4 hours, I guess it just loops the testing or whatever. It came out with 0 Errors. Which is a relief, and a bummer at the same time. I was hoping I atleast knew what the problem was, now Im stuck. I suppose this is most likely software related then, and a MOD can move this if they want. Anyone else have any ideas of what the problem could be? I find it odd that it only effected trillian at first, then it moved to winamp, and then MSN. But now MSN is running fine again, odd.

Have you checked your hard drive for errors? I'd go for the full Scandisk check that looks for bad sectors.

Then, I'd delete your swapfile.. You are running Win98 or ME, right? If so, boot into DOS mode by hitting F8 at startup and go into your c:\windows directory. There you should find a file called win386.swp. Delete that and reboot back into Windows and see if you still have the same problem.

(It's been a while since I used 98/ME so I might be a bit off on the swapfile name. Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm off)

Memtest86 humm?
I think you only did run a standart test....try the extended one...it take at least 4 hours to complete just one time..if it's your ram...the extended test will find your problem...
Had a similar problem....only found it with the extended test

Yep...there's an option to change form standart to extended...but when you lunch the prog it run on standart..you have to hit the C key if Ì remember correctly to have access to those options.
