It's actually far more than a mere fad, the West has started getting to grips with the fact that there are individuals within the population that have a brain that belongs to one gender, and a body to another. This biological disparity manifests as clinically significant stress, which is categorized as gender dysphoria, which is also greatly exacerbated by the persecution these individuals undergo.

We can tell right away that this is not mental illness. Mental illness is when the biological function of the brain is impaired, to the point that it affects cognitive function and/or behaviour. There is no impairment, the brain is fine. It is just mismatched with the sex of the individual's body.

There was also the mentioning of Transgenders being exceedingly predisposed to suicide. This isn't due to them resolving their gender dysphoria. Rather, it's entirely due to the persecution they undergo, which we can draw a direct parallel from the treatment of Native Americans, a population that also undergoes horrific rates of abuse and persecution, which results in an extremely high suicide rate.

So estimates of transgenders as a percent of total population is about 0.5 to 0.6%, why would it be so much higher amongst high schoolers? And more importantly does the disparity mean we as a society take pause and think maybe these kids are still working things out and it might just be morally and ethically wrong to allow them to pursue something very physically permanent at their age?

On a serious note for this particular point. I do think the age to allow gender specific surgeries should be 21. But you can identify as trans at whatever age you want. This is just my opinion when it comes to surgeries.

Look at the graphs in the study. Almost everything there shows an increase, all but one survey showed an increase as we went from year to year. It isn't outrageous to think more kids are likely trans today than before. But really, whether kids or not, this definitely appears to be a thing now.

I agree with this. Unless something life threatening is happening, any permanent transgender medical procedure should be required to wait until the patient has reached the age of majority.

• How to drive or operate machinery.
• Whether or not they should go to school. If it were the choice of the kid plenty would choose not to go.
• How to diet properly - otherwise they would eat McDonalds every day
• Whether they did their homework or not
• If they completed a task/chore
• How to travel by themselves without adult supervision

But for some reason they are trusted to know their gender, sexual orientation, and sexual feelings - often without even reaching puberty let alone maturity.... Amazing. Just fucking amazing that people are that fucking retarded.

Having a 16 year old son and 14 year old daughter and the things they experience in school and on social media with their peers, the rise in transgender teens is most definitely a fad. I’m not advocating for treating them poorly or denying them rights, but teens crave attention more than food, water, and air and today being transgender, gender fluid, etc. gets enormous amounts of attention. Eventually this fad will overextend itself and the number of transgender teens will normalize.
