Hey guys,
I'm looking to upgrade from my older 5.1 Logitech PC speaker setup, to using a dedicated receiver/bookshelf speaker setup. I use my pc for a mix of gaming (both computer and PS3), music, and BluRay. For the receiver I'm planning on purchasing the Sony STRDN1020, or Sony STRDH820.

For speakers I "think" I want to use Polk Tsi200's (which raises my 2nd question):

I'm still undecided on the subwoofer, but gladly open to suggestions.
I was wondering:
1. I'm using the onboard motherboard sound currently which claims 8 channel, and in the "sound manager" software shows an S/PDIF connection but the only thing I can see is 3.5mm jacks for the audio (pictured at the bottom of this page):

Is S/PDIF the best connection choice for getting audio from the PC to the receiver?
If so, how would I go about connecting from the motherboard to the receiver?
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. For anyone who reads this in the future: There's an internal motherboard connection for S/PDIF that goes to an external PCI-area dongle thing included with the mobo. It's pictured in the manual, now I just have to go digging & actually find it...
2. Are the Polk TSi200's a reasonable choice to sit on my desk maybe 1.5-2 feet away? Is there a better choice for the money?
I'm fairly locked in on the receiver choice (using "rewards" CC points towards the purchase), but the speaker choice is pretty much wide open.
Thanks for any suggestions/advice.
