Two partitions better for gaming?

I am getting WD 500gb harddrive along with win vista 64bit

I know that win vista takes at least 15 gb so I am thinking about

dividing the drive into two partitions ( 100gb / 400 gb )

So 100 GB segment will have Windows Vista 64 bit with all other system files
and remaining 400 GB segment will be for other files and games.

How much performance boost would I get in general for doing this?
Is there any advantage for doing this?

I used to do this everytime I did a fresh install but I don't anymore. I honestly can't tell the difference. I suppose I would if I benchmarked it.

The only reason I really like doing this is it makes reinstalls of windows a TON easier.

for example. Format windows, install, etc. Install steam to the directory where steam already exists on your alternate drive...yay for not downloading all your games over!

sure, they dont all work like that, but still....documents, movies, pictures, music, etc... it can come in handy.

you don't break it up for performance boost, you break it up for ease of reformat as chapbass said...

If anything it would cause a slight performance loss (windows accessing "drive C" and "drive D" at the same time without knowing they are a single drive.)

I would still do it.

Having two seperate drives though, physically seperate. One for windows and programs, one for everything else, will be good.

Also, any downloads like torrents should go on a third drive.
