wow, those are some shocking numbers and just over 1/2 of the population experiences sexual abuse as children, wtf? the good thing is that at least this is out in the open so the problem can start to be rectified (although i know it will take a long time)

WTF...that has to be a biased research done primarily in the rural areas. I am pretty sure that it doesnt happens in the urban educated crowd (atleast not 2/3 of the children). Yes, you will get more spankings from the parents (slap on the face etc.) when you have done something wrong (and I believe sometimes, it just warrants it)

no, i think it is biased and skewed. I think that it only shows the stats (and they are also inflated) for the rural areas and not the urban educated areas.

I got *beaten* (if you consider slapping as beating ) by my parents a few times while growing up but now that I think about it, I know that i deserved it most of the times (and no, it wasn't child abuse)

my 12yr old nephew gets one of those on the face once in a while too from his parents. I think that he should get more than once in a while though by looking at the way he argues with his parents etc. (we never dared to argue like that with our parents when we grew up)

a spanking or "one tight slap u will get" is pretty common

I highly doubt that sexual abuse is that prevalent given how protective Indian parents usually are.
