two optical drives on same ide?

out there

Member
i've tried several times to get two different optical drives to function on the same ide channel, but it continues to fail. with my latest machine, i've found that this is a necessity, i have a dvd reading and a cd writing drive... but only one ide channel.
i've tried using cable select on both of them and even tried specifically jumpering them to master and slave... but it has NEVER worked. each one will function on its own, but when both are connected, failure!
HELP?!

did you look at each drive's jumpers? they may have be misplaced or placed in the same slot which could cause problems.

each optical drive being ordered tends to have jumpers placed in master pins, so to make sure to place one of our optical drives' jumpers into slave pins.

Yep, it's all in the jumpers. The drive at the end of the IDE cable should be jumpered as Master (jumper is usually marked "MA") and the drive on the middle connector should be jumpered as Slave (usually marked "SL"). Don't bother with Cable Select ("CS") it only causes problems.

BTW...you do know that your PC should be powered OFF when you're changing jumpers, right?

YEs it is possible..
I have 2 DVD RW ..

Check the Jumpers...
Select one drive as MA and Other as SL

hope this solves it..
