Two network cards for better 10/100 performance

Right now I have a computer with server 2003 and (1) 10/100 NIC card connecting to a Linksys EF2S24 10/100 switch connecting to a Windows XP Pro computer with (1) 10/100 NIC. I could use some faster transfer speed for large 650mb+ files, but not ready to upgrade to gigabit. Im wondering, could I put 2 NIC cards on the server and desktop and get somewhat better performance? I know xp has a bridge feature so I wasnt sure if I bridged them or not it would help.

that's called "Teaming" and only certain NICs support it. In addition, the switch you are connected to has to support port trunking to bond the two interfaces together. I've done it before and it's definitely not worth it now that gigabit speeds are becoming commonplace.

As said above, you can not do it with regular equipment.

However if the transfer is only between two computers. You add a Giga cards one in each computer, and set a second Network with cable between the two Giga cards to use for transfer only. (I.e. small investment in two cards).
