Hello,

I have a question about some monitors.. Im buying two monitors (upgrading from 22") and the ones I've seen on now is U2410 and LP2475w.

The monitors will be used to several things, games, reading and writing texts, internet, some photoshoping, and a couple of movies now and then.

My question is:

2xU2410?
2xLP2475w?
U2410+LP2475w?

If im totally wrong and you want to give some other examples, please!

Aesthetics wise I'd stick with two of the same. From what I remember both the Dell and HP are essentially the same.

I am in the market for those types of monitors and several of the reviews for the HP I've read have said the color is not consistent on the whole panel. No reviews have said that about the DELL. Also, DELL has a great reputation for monitors and a great warranty.

Umm, pretty much every review in the last six months has said that about the dell. Both monitors use the same panel, and both monitors are subject to the issues that plague its manufacturer.

It's almost certain the problem lies with the panel manufacturer (LG.Display) and not with the monitor brands. HP, Dell, and the cheaper NEC IPS displays (ie the EA231WMi) are all affected, though it's impossible to say to what proportion, and if one brand has more dodgy panels than the other. My suspicion is that at similar consumer prices, the monitor OEMs are probably paying LG.Display a similar panel cost, and thus getting the same quality distribution. The more expensive NECs (and possibly Apple) get the top X per cent of a production run, then the other brands get the rest (with possibly the likes of DoubleSight getting what's left and still acceptable).

If you read the lengthy threads Hard|Forum for any of the $500 or less displays, you're going to see complaints about panel uniformity, tinting, etc.

I agree with your theory, but I have not read any reviews like the ones about the HP color shift on the DELL U2410. That's definitely good to know and it looks like I'll be enjoying my G90f for a while longer until this LCD bullshit gets sorted out.

Also, the U2410 and LP2475w are over $500. For that price-range I expect a picture quality as good as my ViewSonic G90f or better. Maybe not the response time, but at least the color uniformity, precision and contrast.

thanks, is that the only link?

The only one I've been following. The Dell forum has a few threads with responses from Dell representatives. As far as I know the latest word from them is that they are discussing the issue with the panel manufacturer, and have stopped taking returns of units with the issue.

This is the part that's dissuaded me from ordering a Dell U2410 -- and leads me to suspect there isn't a 'solution', at least in this price range. Dell (and NEC for their cheaper displays) aren't accepting returns based on panel unformity and claim the variation we're seeing is within spec. By that, I think they mean, 'This is the best we can do given our contract with LG.Display.'

It's true that the U2410 and HP LP2475w retail above $500, but I've only considered them below that price, heh. Anyhow round $500ish, for the price they pay LG.Display, and the quantities required (I think both are key factors), this may be the best LG.Display can manage right now.

I do hope Dell and HP and NEC are kicking LG.Display's arse over this, and it will get sorted soon. I'm itching to buy a 23 or 24-inch IPS monitor.

So which sub-$500 23"/24" LCDs don't have any display issues? If there are any, that is.

What I was trying to get across from my last post was that, at this price range, you're taking a considerable gamble until LG.Display improves their panel manufacture QA. I assume out of a production run, high-end NEC gets the best samples, then Apple, then Dell / HP / cheaper NEC. I'd be very surprised if, say, $500 HP monitors were getting better IPS panels than $500 Dell monitors.

That said, the new Dell A01 firmware may have solved the sRGB mode dithering issue. Considering that the fairly effective sRGB mode is one of Dell's trump cards over HP, if this is true, I'd now recommend buying Dell.

I just bought a Dell U2410...its awful.
Pink and green tint when you look at a white page and bad lag and stuttering when gaming.Movies look good but that's about it.
Its very disappointing and I'm sending it back this week.
No way would I recommend one.

LP 2475 has been in production longer and, assuming you get a newer revision is probably a safer bet. It also has the best stand I've ever had the pleasure of using. You'll be surprised by the weight of it!

The sheer aesthetic fugliness of the HP stand (specially its base) kept me from buying the HP LP2475w last year. By the time I got over it, the Dell U2410 was on the way, which introduced the quandary many of us are now in.

Oh, Will Robinson, that's a bloody shame. And adds another data point to weigh against purchase of the U2410. I'd nearly settled upon the Dell, too, after hearing of the sRGB-fix rev. Do you know which rev your model is? I'm a little surprised to learn of the gaming issues; I thought the response time and input lag were fast enough. Which mode do you use your Dell in?

This thread's nearly a month old. I wonder how the OP decided.

Yeah I thought the gaming was supposed to be great with it too.:\I don't know where the Rev info is.....?
Using it in "game" mode didn't help much.
I was playing BF2 and its virtually unplayable...especially after a fast 20" Samsung widescreen .
Dell has apparently washed their hands of it after so many complaints and now blames LG for manufacture problems with the panel.
I specifically bought a Radeon 5850 to run it...after thinking my old HD4850 was the problem.
It made no difference yet the 5850 looked fabulous in game once I hooked up my old 206BW TN panel....so I know its not a problem with the video card.
This display was hyped up big time around the Net and here...thats why I bought it.Anyone thinking of getting one for gaming needs to think very carefully about it.
All in all....FAIL:thumbsdown:

Just a quick update to this thread.
The bad lag and stuttering in BF2 has been resolved.Immediately after installing Catalyst 10.1 things are where they should be.The game runs very smooth and looks terrific.
Regarding the green tint on white backgrounds...I need some help here.
When I open an image file in Windows 7 Pictures it has a green tint as you can see.
However when I open the same image via Windows Media Center: Picture Library the picture is displayed in perfect color tones.

In Win 7 Pictures.

Here it is in Windows Media Center.
I've tried uploading one of the profiles for this monitor from TFT Central and also lowered the green saturation levels somewhat but it didn't help much.
Blue ray movies look fabulous and now that the gaming is fixed I'm a lot happier with the display.
What to do about the tint...send it back, hope for new firmware....any thoughts?:\

Since you mentioned games and already like using dual monitors.....why not pick up a third monitor and use the Eyefinity technology built into HD5xxxx Video cards with it.

As long as at least one of the monitors has "display port" having triple displays should be a "plug and play" deal.

A further/final? update to this thread...
The green tint issue has been solved.I reset the monitor using the default ICM file...then unplugged the monitor and left it for a day.
After re uploading the default ICM the green tint was gone.I then loaded up the TFT Central Colorimeter ICM and the overall tones are now pretty much perfect.
I must also mention the excellent stand on this monitor and also the high level of finish on the controls and inputs....it has the look and feel of an expensive panel and now lives up to its hype.
