In honor of Veteran's Day, two Marines graciously accepted my request to speak to a group of cub scouts.

They were both 23, had served in the Marines for 5 years, and had achieved the rank of Sargeant. One recently served for 8 months in Iraq.

They described why we celebrate Veteran's Day, why we need a military, and why they volunteered to serve. They patiently answered questions for over an hour. You can imagine some of the questions 8 - 10 year old boys can came up with!

All in all, it was a wonderful evening that both the kids and the parents enjoyed immensely.

My hat's off to those who serve in the armed forces. They are making us proud.

I'm sure they posed some pretty direct questions, as well all know children pull no punches. I'm sure they were presented with questions that made them remember things they probably hoped they never would. Willing to bet they handled it in a manner that never showed their inner thoughts or produced ANY negative reactions that those children even picked up.

I agree completely, some of the finest Americans we can present to the world or our own children.

Getting kids to want to join the military, so they can go off to foreign lands and die for politicians. Great, just great.

Isnt it sick that children admire police officers, firefighters, and men in the military. Too bad they can't look up to YOU and your fine standards.

They were invited guests. They weren't on a recruiting mission and they didn't try to convice the kids to join the military.

Like most Amercians, I'm grateful to those who have the courage and conviction to defend our great land.

Thats not the point, the point is he has to make even this into a political statement based on his opinion.

Yes I did. But that was before I realized what the military was all about.

Enlighten us, what is the miltary ALL ABOUT? You obviously have served to make a comment like that so your, ahem, OPINION, should at least have a relevant personal perspective.

The military is a centrally planned socialist government entity that is extremely inefficient, and frankly should be abolished entirely.

That is the BEST thing that can be said about it. Today (and for decades now) the military has been put to use by politicians who desire to attain their own ends at the expense of those who swear allegiance to the state (military personnel), and taxpayers.

So thats what the military is all about, nothing to do with honor, loyalty, nothing else at all......

No, it has to do with honor and loyalty. But extremely misguided honor and loyalty. Serving in the military is not serving the country by any stretch of the imagination.

I remember one time in school, we had a couple of recruiters come and talk to us about how great the military wise and how you only have to go a few weekends a year. Blah Blah Blah. To make a long story short, kids in the class were telling the recruiters that they'll probably drop you in a foreign land to get killed. Absolutely great stuff. Now that I think about it, if anyone was stupid enough to take that offer they would be in Iraq right now.

They actually believe that this wholly unwarranted invasion and occupation of Iraq and just about everyone else since WWII somehow protects our freedoms. When in fact we are fighting for the freedom of PNAC racketeers and Big Business carpetbaggers to unabashedly profit from the criminal deception of the American people and the ruthlessly spent blood of American troops and that of countless "collateralees". What a shame..or is it sham to pursue their lustful, militant, and highly lucrative world domination schemes. Hey it's a job right;)

Bravo! I am sure it was a neat experience.

Sure is a shame to post a something decent like this - and to see the hate mongers come out of the woodwork.

On top of that, they think that the deficit racked up by this war is "meaningless" and that we just "owe it to ourselves."
