two machines, crossover cable, dsl modem... unplugged still it says

I have everything I need and I installed the two nics in first machine and one nic in the second but the second computer continues to say "lan unplugged". I use XP on both machines and ran the home networking wizard which seemed to work fine on the first machine. The second machine ran fine also but continues to say unplugged.

All three nics are working fine and can be used to connect to the ethernet modem and surf.

Should I leave the nics in auto DHCP mode or assign a static IP to them ??

Anybody else using crossover cable and have some helpful hints ?

So, from the modem, to your main box running ics with two NIC's, one for dsl, the other for the second box, crossover from box1 to box2, correct?

Check your cable first, check for lights, worry about ip addresses later. You have to have the connection before you start messing with things like that.

Remember, Physical to Application.; 1-7! Not the other way around.
