Another useful trick (assuming that people can figure out a weather report) is to place a towel of two on the front windshield. This is when any bad weather near/below freezing temps is expected.

Peel it off in the morning and you have a clean view of everyone else sweating to clean off their windshields.

Towel can be shaken off and/or left in some sink/bathtub to defrost for the next time needed.

Hair dryers on an extension cord can also help with a defrost.

An 8x10 tarp is only a couple dollars...
It doesn't look pretty, but if you know freezing rain is coming, it saves you from a LOT of work.

I usually throw an elbow into it and crack the ice. Break it up a little and just take the pieces off.

Edit: Lol at this thread...crouch driving...lmao 😀

As I said in another thread of this sort, get a cane and use it to ram the ice from the side. It will come off faster than with any other method. Of course, running the defroster first will help alot.

i wouldn't use the A/C while running the defroster. i'd put it on re-circulate, though, because:

A) you want maximum heat build-up in the car
B) the exterior intake for the climate control may be blocked with the same ice.

then use the A/C once you're up and running to remove the excess moisture in the air.

ive lived in Minnesota all my life and I dont think I've ever had 2 inches of ice on my car. Maybe half an inch, TOPS
