Probably not. Where are you headed? MOST of the damage appears to be confined to the west side of the Big Island, with some landslides on Maui blocking the main north/south highway on the west side. Not sure it that's opened yet or not. Last I read, power had been restored to Maui, the Hilo area on the Big Island, and parts of O'ahu.

Shhhh... You'll ruin everything. Right now I'm trying to destroy the island with liquid hot mag-ma. Just off shore I have sharks (with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads) all set to take care of the people trying to escape.
But this can all be avoided if Hawaii pays me *pause for effect* One MILLION dollars!

Interesting. I am in Japan right now so i am not exactly foreign to earthquakes.
Infact we had one on saturday morning. It was actually kinda freak because it was a really long one...kinda went in and out..i was just waiting for the next tone to start again and be the "big one" that everyone talks about. It was a pretty good shake...nothing falling or anything but you could deff feel it.

I may be crazy, but it looks like a massive chunk of the cliff face of Kealakekua Bay fell away.

Waking up to an earthquake in Hawaii = WTF. Large earthquakes in Hawaii are really really rare. So my bed starts shaking and the whole house is making strange noises. About 3 seconds of this after I've been awakened it intensifies for about 4 seconds, then it rumbles down for like about 5 seconds. A small pause and then about 10 seconds more rumbling.
Holy crap! We just got nukular bombded by Korea!
There was a 3.2 just over a month ago, and it wasn't much more then a fat guy doing running drills in my living room. I guessed that this one was at least 6 or 7, so I jump on my computer to find out and while I am googling up some disaster site and talking about it with other Hawaiians on ventrilo the power goes out.
Hawaii runs on giant (gas?) turbines. They supposedly turn themselves off in an earthquake and take ages to turn back on.
Power went out island wide for most of the day. I think we were the last ones to have it restored at 12:41 am the next day. Chocolate ice cream bars became nothing more then bags of chocolate milk. Half gallon ice cream was a big bucket of liquid. By 7am my internet was still down, no cable. I am now at work and I just got word that power has gone out at my house again.
If sh!t isnt sorted by the time Heroes comes on, Im gonna be motherfvcking pissed! I can handle a wasted Sunday and a day of fixing broken computers, but I want my Heroes dammit.

Go. Have a great time. AFAIK, O'ahu is fine. The biggest problem was the power outage there. Personally, I dislike Waikiki...too crowded, too busy, sort of like a tropical San Francisco, but it's still better than the mainland...If you have time, try the Royal Circle Island Tour, or the Majestic Grand Circle Island Tour. Great way to see the sights. The E Noa folks take pretty good care of you, and know all the fun places to stop. Yes, you CAN do this on your own with a rental car, but having someone else drive so you can enjoy the scenery has it's advantages...

My tank? Shoot...
It was fine, had to slush teh water around a few times every hour or so. A lot of bugs and worms in teh tank came out of the woodwork, even some nuisance anemone attaching to the glass while the water was still. Once the power kicked in and the pumps and filters spun to life, I just did a quick cleaning of the glass, and by morning everything was back to normal.
What is really weird is that I came back from school this afternoon, and there was a new fish in the tank, well, at least one I haven't seen before...a Hawaiian sand/shrimp goby!

From what I have heard or been told by the travel agent we have used in the past, the only hotels damaged significantly were the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea. Not a big shock since they are so much closer to Kawaihae and Hawi than the rest.
