Tried different versions of drivers (with driver cleaner). Monitor detects and shows up properly. However, it does not show anything when you select "extend my desktop" to it. I.e. it doesn't come out of standby.
Any ideas? I've used multiple monitors (and do so on the other machine right now) for quite a while but I have never seen something like this. The poster at the link below suggests to try a VGA cable and a DVI-VGA adaptor, but that does not explain the problem.
Just for the record, the monitor is being set to the correct refresh rate, so that shouldn't be a problem. By itself, the other monitor works just fine.
I have found one description of problem almost identical to mine, with no resolution - http://www.genmay.com/showthread.php?p=20653660
