Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I am in the process of upgrading my PC, and would like some advice on RAM.

The current spec is:

AMD Athlon 3800 (Venice)
MS-7125-STD NVIDIA nForce 4 Std (skt939) PCI-Express
2 x Hynix 512Mb DDR DIMM PC3200
NVidia 7800GTX

I have acquired two 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC3200 DIMMs, and want to install them, but am not sure if this will cause problems, as the first two sticks are cheap Hynix DIMMs.

Can I just install the two new sticks and enjoy 2GB of RAM, or will there be compatibility problems?

A friend mentioned I might have to play with the BIOS, but couldn't elaborate further. Could anyone here explain this a bit better?

THANKS SO MUCH!

from what I know about dual channel, which you are not probably running now with the Hynix, you won't be able to use dual channel with the other 2 sticks your acquired, they have to be matched pairs or in your case all 4 the same. You can run all four with no problem and enjoy 2gb but just not dual channel. I would run the Ballistix 2x512 in dual channel only and use the Hynix for backup.

You're gonna be running 2T, and will probably lose dual-channel. But it WILL work.

My advice is to sell the Ballistix and Hynix DIMMs and get yourself a pair of 1GB modules.
