As anyone who has tried water fasting, you know that the first two days are the hardest. You get the most temptation to eat within the first two days, feel like passing out from the hard to bear starving signals of the brain as it tries to switch to ketones for fuel. Sometimes, it can get real close to a blackout. All to force us to feed ourselves some carbs or sugars. But once the two days are over, the feeling of hunger subsides substantially. Your body starts operating at peak efficiency, using the stored fat for energy and even the growth hormones spike causing some muscle building to take place from the proteins digested from the old worn out cells and tissues that your body deems unnecessary for continued survival.
I was particularly taken aback when I heard in a video about hypnagogia that it is best achieved when you force your body to sleep only 120 minutes in 24 hours by napping for 20 minutes every four hours. However, to get into this routine, you have to first go through the hell of two days where you suffer pretty badly from sleep deprivation. However, once that hell is over and your body becomes accustomed to the new routine, your brain enters a new state of unlimited creativity, enabling you to look at problems with more clarity and focus and come up with innovative solutions. Edison used to do it with a metal ball in his hand that would fall down to the floor and wake him up whenever he dozed off, enabling him to enter a hypnagogic state. Fuller, Nikola Tesla and Leonardo Da Vinci also used this method to unlock their creative potential: https://thesleepdoctor.com/how-sleep-works/polyphasic-sleep/
It seems to me that two days of discomfort and misery is the price to unlock the unlimited potential hidden within all of us. I'm interested in hearing if there are other similar phenomena that require two days to enhance some bodily function or ability.
