Two cores, two different temps

I have an i3-530, and when running Prime95 (4 worker threads) I noticed that CoreTemp is reporting that core #1 is running roughly 3-6C hotter than core #2.

Is this normal?

Great, thanks. Was thinking maybe I didn't apply the thermal paste evenly enough or something.

on idle yes.. because u have background processes which will take up cpu cycle time.

So on a 2 core system, 1 will be doing background processes which will make it slightly hotter.

Load them both up, that is a better way to debug.
The load temps on both cores should be near even.

CoreTemp is reporting right now, when idling, core #1 @ 23C and core #2 @ 30C.

When at full load (Prime95), CoreTemp reports core #1 @ 48C, core #2 at 55C.

Stock heatsink.

What should I do to fix it?

... bah then its fine as it is.

i thought you were using an aftermarket.

Just make sure all the pushpins are indeed secured.

Other then that, its nothing to worry about on a stock air sink.

Nothing, it's totally normal for one core to run a bit hotter than the others. You can try to do whatever you want to try and cool it down but I doubt you will succeed.

It's fine, don't worry about it.

I get this too on my i7 860. The rest of my cores are around the same +/- 1C while Core 0 is normally like 3 or 4C above the others :/
