Two computers/one monitor?

ya, you can do that and you dont need a KVM i've had 2 LCDs w/ both dvi and vga and i can plug 2 computers in and just switch w/ the button on the front of the monitor

You don't need a KVM, though that will minimize the double KB and mice. You can switch from digital to analog on the monitor, if that's possible. I know you can do it w/ Samsung DVI+Analog LCDs.

Well, I tried one KVM (VGA one) and it made everything look like crap. Is there one that isn't $100 that won't destroy my image quality?

I believe it was a Trendware - I tried it about 2 months ago, but if there's one out there that won't degrade image quality I'd get it.

If there's a way to switch between those 2 inputs, I don't see why you won't be able to do that. I know CRT monitors can switch between BNC and VGA or between 2 VGA inputs if they have them. I'd imagine LCDs to be the same.

You should be able to do that fine depending on the monitor. My LCD has both DVI and Analog. I have had 2 computers hooked up to it, one on DVI and one on Analog. I could switch back and forth using an option in the LCD's Menu.

If your monitor allows you to slect inputs, you could do that. However, what do you do for the keyboards and mice?

That was most likely the VGA cable used. Yes: there are situations where cables matter.
