two annoying XP issues I'm having

one, when I put a cd in my cd-rw (LG 40/12/40) and click on it in explorer, it doesn't do anything (no error even) but if I open a cmd box I can access it fine.

second, I'm cleaning up my system, and on some files/folders when I try and delete them I get "file/folder is currently in use by another application" when they aren't. It's very random. I can *sometimes* delete both, but usually when I delete the files then try and kill the dir it will give me that error. Closing Powerdesk and reopening it will sometimes let me delete the dir, but not always. I'm running XP Pro fat32. Any idea's? this is a big annoyance :)

the first one is annoying too, I have the latest Nforce drivers installed, and the cd-rw is a slave on my 2nd ide channel.

QueBert,

I dont know what to do about the CDRW problem but when my OS (also Win XP Pro, but NTFS) says file in use I just wait a minute and I can delete it then.

Hope this helps!

Well in XP I can right click on my cdrw drive->properties->autoplay tab. Then you can decide what action your cdrw does whenever a cd is inserted.

doesn't help me, autoplay doesn't even have a choice for data cd (not on my system anyways) I just want to be able to access the coontent of it through Powerdesk! I have tried Explorer and Powerdesk, and both won't let me click on the rw drive. I can see it in CMD fine, and like now I have SOFII in there and the game plays fine, and it checks the CD. I don't know what is going on here, but it's pissing me off :)

If it's a file you really want to get rid of, you could boot using a win98 boot disk (or equivalent) and get to a true dos prompt. Then you can delete to your heart's content. BTW, ditch the FAT32... go to Start>Run>cmd, at the prompt type "convert C: /FS:NTFS" and wait for the conversion.

True - however, if you convert to NTFS, you can forget about accessing files from a Win98 DOS boot disk - the converted drive will not be seen unless you install a DOS-NTFS. NTFS

However, that freeware will only let you read - not write. Delete is a Write action. To do that you move into an expensive utility that is not freeware.

No NTFS for me, I don't need drive security, and I fail to see any other reason to run NTFS.
