Two Access Points - Same SSID

Hey all,

Quick explanation/question - I have a Netgear WGR614 router and a DLINK DWL-7100AP. Both are set as access points. My question, if I set the SSID on the Netgear to HOMEDLINK with same WEP key (and a different channel), will this help to "extend" the range of my access points to help give a stronger signal to wireless clients upstairs? Note that both access points are wired to the network so no bridging (access point to access point) will be needed.
Or...will I just confuse the heck out of the wireless clients?

If nothing else, If one AP goes down, I don't want the wireless clients to notice anything.

That's fine. You'll just have two "cells" of wireless coverage. The client will make a decision on which one to use. It will also switch if it gets a better signal from the other.
