I have two MPEG files that are 750MB each. I want to combine them into one big file and then split it into 3 smaller parts of different sizes. How do I do this? I have VirtualDub, but I'm still trying to figure it out.

I've not used VirtualDub, and you'll probably laugh at me for suggesting this, but I found the build in MovieMaker program in WinXP was super handy for doing really simply merge/cut/split functions to mpgs. Anymore than that, and it's useless, but if that's all you want to do, maybe give that a try if you've got XP.

TMPGEnc is a good tool for this job. After running it, go to File>MPEG Tools|Merge & Cut. To cut the files, you simply add the file you want to cut to the list, click 'Edit' and highlight the part you want to save using the various controls in the Edit dialog and then enter in the filename for the new file, finally hit Run. To merge files, you add the files you want to merge to the list and then enter the filename you wish to save the file to and hit Run.

I have been looking for ways to merge and split mpegs for a while now. I tried using the Win XP movie make without any success. RedRooster, if you know how please tell me the basic comands to split or merge mpegs and then save them into files, not the projects of the movie maker.

I'll try TMPGEnc and see if I get anything.

Also, is there a program that can also spril and merge divix Avi files?

Thanks

Murging with TMPGEnc is working great. I have only one question. Tyycly there is a pause of a fraction of a second in the video were the merge occured. The program can try to work on a file and atempt to fix errors and remove noise but the process takes a long time and my final movie files end up being very big. So I was wondering if it is possible for the program to blend the videos together when murging to avoid the pauses. The pauses are instantaneous almost but they are still nticable and anoying.

Thanks for the help.

My link above tells you exactly how to do it. Take a look at the website, it's great for movie editing.
