If your computer's task is mainly reading/writing large files, then raid

if no, raptor will be an overall better performer

i was JUST thinking this today! my ideas so far. i was thinking raid 1.

SATA RAID is cheaper than a raptor (gb/$)
SATA RAID has redundancy (RAID 1, at least)
SATA RAID reads faster than a single 7200 drive, but i'm not sure how it compares to the raptor.
my understanding is that a raid 1 array writes at the same speed of each drive = no write improvement.
raptor reads and writes fast.

Only if the controller supports read striping. Most don't, especially the controllers you find on motherboards these days.

The Sequential transfer speed would be faster in RAID case; The Access time however Raptor wins no doubt.
Capacity wise RAID wins
Reliability wise Raptor Wins
