two 23-24" or one 27"

Dell store has the U2711 on sale for $729 ($999 on NCIX)
Not for professional use, but I'd say I'm more discerning than your average PC user. I have a Samsung 23" 2048x1152 display (must be a TN, was under $200 when I bought it). It's pretty nice for the price. I recently built a system with a 24" Samsung 1080p which was unimpressive in comparison.

For a while I've wanted dual screens, but could never find one similar enough to the one I have. At this point I'm seriously considering just getting a really nice big 27" screen. I think it would probably fit better on my desk than two 23-24" displays anyway.

I came across this Samsung 27" panel: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...syncmaster-27a850d-27-pls-monitor-review.html

Looks nice too. If you were shopping for a u2711 what other monitors would you look at? Thoughts/concerns about these types of displays?

IMHO two 24" monitors are better than a single 27". That said, if the 24" are of half @ssed quality, I might choose a quality 27" over them. Still, dual monitors are hard to beat

Thanks for the input. That reminds me of another aspect, the GPU. I have a 1GB GTX 460SE, I don't really have any plan of upgrading that. Maybe in 1-2 years but not any time soon. From a GPU standpoint is there an advantage/disadvantage to using two 24" or a single high resolution 27"?

Dell U2711 is good but it has such coating that makes text little blurry.
IMO two 24" will not give you vertical pixels that one 27" has.

There isn't any tangible difference - GPUs today are designed with multiple monitors in mind. What will slow you down is running 3d heavy apps on both monitors at the same time. If you just want the extra space, you won't have any problems.

I used to have a dual Samsung 23" Led. Got rid of it to get an Asus Ve278Q ! Couldn't be happier ! This screen makes me happy every morning when I wake up and turn it on !
