Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and the "A,B,C song" are the SAME song!

Daughter: *humming to herself in her car seat*

Wife: What are you humming? Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star?

Daughter: No, the ABC Song, but it's the same song. [musically]

Wife and I: *ponder for a minute, hum to ourselves, sit stunned for a second*

She's now 4, but my wife has polled a fair amount of people asking the question, "Did you know it was the same song?" No one has said yes so far (though it's on Wikipedia). It's funny how even a little munchkin can teach you something. :)

Ummm... duh? No offense, but I too noticed this as a youth, and while I don't want to speak for any of my friends or family, I know at least a couple of people who I've conversed with about this subject (they know it's the same tune as well).

Yeah, as well as Baa, Baa, Black Sheep. I didn't realize this was supposed to be new and astonishing information.

heh I never picked up on that as a kid. But I was far from an auditory kid, I was always and still am visual. I often can't focus hard enough on things that are auditory, and until recently I tended to space out, no matter what it was. So long stories told by friends? The middle I rarely remember as I focus on other things in our surroundings, so a dog, cat, tv, song, computer monitor, squirrel... even swaying trees. :D

Seriously I'd be pretty impressed and happy if I had a 3 year old who made that observation.
You can tell the kids who are tone deaf vs. the ones with an ear for music early on. Give her access to some instruments & lessons and see what happens, if you haven't done that already.

I can enjoy listening to music, but yep, I definitely don't really have an ear for music. I can differences in notes, but have no idea what type of note they are, how to make music in proper time signatures that has a good sound, etc etc. I wish I did, because I want to learn guitar and/or drums. But first, it's expensive, and second, I don't think it'd be worthwhile in the end anyhow.

You don't really need to know much to make music, don't pysch yourself out. This is a great time to learn guitar (or drums) -- there are tons of free resources online now and a steady supply of cheap but decent guitars from Asia. If you like music and are dedicated enough to get past the initial growing pains, you'll have a lot of fun.
