TWIN3X2048-1800C7DF + Rampage Extreme Memtest Video Corruption

Hey guys I have a kind of weird issue.

I have a Rampage Extreme with Corsair TWIN3X2048-1800C7DF (1800mhz 7-7-7-20).

When I run memtest at stock speeds, it seems to pass for roughly a hour and after a while the video becomes corrupted. I believe I saw something changing, like it's a bad video card.

However this was not a problem with my previous memory. Nor is it a problem if I lower the memory speeds, so I am more inclined to think it might be more related to NB Voltage.

Here's my settings:

FSB: 450
RAM speed: 1800mhz 7-7-7-20-2T
Memory voltage: 2.00v
NorthBridge voltage: 1.63v BIOS (1.59v actual)

I have tried raising northbridge voltage but that has not seemed to help.

Edit: I just read increasing VTT might help. I am only running 1.15v, does this sound like it might be the problem?

What else can I try changing?

Why are you asking? Make the change(s) and see if it helps. After all, what works for someone else, may not work for you.

I found the VTT part since I first posted. It's been fine at lower RAM speeds, so I never thought that VTT might be too low.

That actually sounds really high for NBv. What is stock on that NB on that board?

Around 1.30v.

Corsairs recommended setting is 1.70v. That sounds a bit high to me too.

Others say they need a full 1.72v to do a little bit higher than what I am aiming for, so 1.63v (1.59v reported actual) might even be too low.

I tried VTT at 1.22v with a NB voltage of 1.59v (1.55v actual) froze in memtest x86 in 15 minutes.

I did run HDI memtest for a solid 30 minutes with 1.22 VTT and 1.66v NB which usually detects errors a lot faster...

I just did my third RMA. First two sets had a stick that would not boot at all. Third had two sticks but one of them would give memtest errors within a couple minutes and I had to overvolt the memory to get it to run until it freezes.

I am fairly sure that because it's freezing or I am seeing video corruption it is either NB voltage or VTT voltage, but I'm really not sure and if anyone knows if that's a sign of this please let me know.

Not a bad video card - at 1500mhz memtest can run all day!

Well I made it the longest I have made it so far last night. I woke up and it was going for 5 hours 30 minutes, went back to bed for a half hour and when I woke up it froze at 6 hours 8 minutes.

Increased VTT to 1.26 and tried 1.51v on the northbridge (1.48v actual).

Trying 1.59v on the northbridge now - if this doesn't work I am out of ideas!

Okay I have now tried just about every possible setting combination on the board. I'm a bit annoyed and it's downright obvious that I'm wasting my time

I've come to the conclusion that:

a) Corsair, like all other DDR3 brands I've used on several boards, have an extremely high defect rate.

b) this RAM is either bad too (4th set, most of the others had a stick that would not boot or was going for a new record for errors in memtest)

c) This RAM is not compatible with Intel chipsets.

What RAM does work properly on this board?
