The twin deficits are telling the United States that it is consuming more than it is producing, and requiring foreign investors to fill the gap with capital.

But many economists say this is unsustainable and will further weaken the dollar, erode US living standards and destabilize the global economy.

"We borrow 1.8 billion dollars every single day from overseas in order to offset the current-account deficit," Sohn said.
^^^ Staggering^^^

P.S. This is one of my peeves....spending blindly and in an unlimited fashion will kill the US and world's economy.........

The Neocons know this very well. The Bush Doctrine's essential message is - "This is the way we like it and this is the way it's gonna stay. Fusk with this arragengement and die M***********."

This is THE singularly most important issue for me this election. And why I cannot vote for George W. Bush, despite my conservative leanings (especially fiscal conservatism). Before he took office, Clinton had reduced these deficits nearly to 0, with surpluses predicted for the future. In less than 4 years, Bush undid all 8 years of Clinton's fiscal work and turned those projected surpluses into record deficits so high that America is on the verge of bankruptcy.
It is an odd, odd world when everything is turned so upside-down to the point where the liberals are more conservative than the conservatives...
