The Ikea in the Twin Cities is opening up on the 14th and the first 100 adults in the store are gonna get a free Poang armchair.

Here is the info on the Grand Opening.

This is the chair and I think that the one that you can get is Kungsvik blue fabric one.

100 isn't too many so good luck to those that try.

Yeah, 1st 100 , not sure I`d get stand on line for a chair. They do have some "interesting" items though. Also,
Free soft toy to first 500 children in line on July 14th. Too bad I`m about 400 miles away.
BTW, welcome to Anandtech:cool:

Which Twin Cities? I keep hearing about the Twin Cities. Is it one city that is called Twin Cities or a pair of cities togather called so. I know this place is somewhere arond MN region.

But anyways looks a good deal to whoever get there first. Its bizzare to think that lines started forming from monday itself. Dont think they are going to give that many free stuff anyways. Only 100 chairs and some 500 soft toys worth $2 and I dont think parents will be making a beeline for those.

I was thinking about trying to get the chair, but decided It wasn't worth the hassle, they did have a nifty looking bedset in the ad for about $300 I might go pick up another day though

Twin cities is Minneapolis, MN and St. Paul, MN (I think), and they are called the twin cities because they are right next to each other.

correct. They combine into one huge metro area, with lots of suburbs and other towns now growing to be an even BIGGER metro area... crazyness...

EDIT: and yes, it's Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Hmm so its like Dallas/Fortworth, but i guess both Minneapolis and St paul are equally big unlike DFW where Dallas is bigger and more famous. That may be the reason they are called twin cities, also may be that Minneapolis/St Paul dont sound that good togather and would take a bit of effort to pronounce them both.

Anyway today I learnt something after all.
thanks guys

I bought that chair. It is very comfy and looks great in my room. Worth a trip over if you have the time.

I think there's a radio station (101.3 kdwb?) promotion going along with the grand opening, which might explain the long lines.

Not sure of the details of that radio promotion, but it's probably hard to win anyways.

x2. It is just a general term that includes Minneapolis, St. Paul and the 20 or so burbs. Yah good luck standing in line. This store is getting alot press it wouldn't surprise me if camped. The store is located next the MoA (Mall of America) in Bloomington.

The reason why Mpls/Stp are called the twin cities because they are right next to each other, you can have one leg in one city and the other in another city. It is like one city with two downtowns. From most tall buildings you can see both downtowns. DFW has space between both cities.

Not to mention Minneapolis is a bit bigger than St Paul.
Ever notice the Minnesota Twin's (get the name now? I didn't even think about it until I had lived here a few months) baseball hats? Logo is a TC for Twin Cities.

Lines have formed already? Don't these people have lives? I work a crappy student job and I make more than $79 in an 8 hr day of work, and I don't have to leave the A/C and waste my life in front of a crappy store, not to mention I have 16 hrs left to do as I please. Seriously, some people need new hobbies other than camping out in front of a furniture store.

I bought that chair last October for my stay in Indianapolis. The Extended Stay Hotel I'm living in has real uncomfortable furniture. For the Money you cannot beat the comfort. Also practical for me to disassemble and pack in my car for my next contract. I am always in this chair when in my room and very satisfied. Watching TV or Surfing on my laptop hours go by without a sore butt or back.

If you can get a free one this is a HOT deal freebie. It cost me $100 total to have it delivered to Indy

I'll be check the place out. I saw their online store and things looked pretty decent and cheap. You know the average shopper spends 2 hours per visit?

I wouldn't doubt that 2 hour statistic...not only is Ikea huge, but they also have sweet set-ups inside the stores that make you just want to buy everything they got.

Prices are cheap, products are great, and you do get them the same day since everything is so flatly packed. Hopefully you don't mind spending some time with a hex-bit once you get back home :D

There's always a bunch of people who got nothing better to do with their time than wait for days in line for a free chair.

Went to the opening, Heard roomer that 300 people waited over night for chair and they all were given one. Also, and this is true. 5 people waited three days in line and they were honored with $2000 shopping sprees. For what I could tell the Ikia staff put real beds and night stands outside for them to sleep on. Anyway $2000 goes a long way at Ikea.

I'm not trying to take this thread off topic or anything, but ...

If someone was to wait outside of a store for the whole night to get a $79 chair for free, they must not value their time very much. Silly. Just plain silly.

But, I do like some of the Ikea stuff. My desk and filing cabinet are from Ikea and have real wood veneer on them. The rest of the stuff is too contemporary and my wife would not let the stuff into our house.

if you live in a cardeboard box in an alley I say waiting all night is not such a big deal.
